Define the required liquid grade first
“Liquid lignosulfonate” is a product family, not one universal specification. State the required counter-ion or acceptable alternatives, intended process, delivery location and annual volume. If a dry product may also be suitable, compare on active-solids cost and total handling cost rather than price per delivered tonne alone.

Application qualification
Liquid lignosulfonates may be screened for selected cementitious, mineral-dispersion, binding, granulation and dust-control systems. Suitability is grade- and process-specific. Supplier guidance should be treated as a recommended trial range, then normalized to active solids and verified with the buyer’s actual raw materials.
- Define a control formulation and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Check compatibility, dilution behavior and addition sequence at laboratory scale.
- Test several dosages while holding water, solids, temperature and mixing energy constant.
- Measure immediate and time-dependent performance relevant to the application.
- Confirm pumpability, storage stability, final properties and production repeatability.
Delivered-cost comparison
Compare quotations using active solids, not liquid mass alone. Include freight, packaging or tank requirements, unloading time, storage losses, dilution needs and the validated use level. A cheaper diluted material can have a higher effective cost, while a higher-solids material may require different pumping or temperature controls.
Claims that require supporting evidence
Do not assume a fixed water-reduction percentage, dust-control duration, strength increase, reapplication interval or compatibility with other additives. Environmental, biodegradability, safety, regulatory and standards-compliance claims should be supported by current product-specific documentation and evaluated for the intended market and use.
